Dubai Metro Etiquette: RTA Issues Key Guidelines for Respectful and Safe Commutes

Dubai – With over 900,000 daily riders, the Dubai Metro remains one of the busiest public transport systems in the region. To ensure a smooth and respectful experience for all commuters, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has released a detailed list of etiquette rules that every passenger should follow.

Key Courtesy Rules for Metro Riders

1. Keep Shared Spaces Clear
Bulky bags and foldable e-scooters must be kept out of walkways and doors. E-scooters are permitted but must be folded and stored in designated areas.

2. Respect Seating Norms
Seats should never be occupied by bags or belongings. Passengers are urged to place items on the floor to keep spaces accessible.

3. Follow Cabin Rules

• Women and Children Cabin: Reserved strictly for women and children.

• Gold Class Cabin: Only for those holding the appropriate ticket. Unauthorized entry may result in fines.
Clear signage, including the new pink floor markings, helps identify designated cabins.

4. Avoid Restricted Items
Prohibited items include alcohol, weapons, sharp tools, and flammable substances. Carrying these can endanger passengers and lead to penalties.

5. Maintain a Quiet Atmosphere
Passengers should speak in low tones and keep phone volume to a minimum to maintain a peaceful travel environment.

6. Follow Cultural Norms
Avoid displays of affection or behavior that may violate public decency. Respect for local customs helps create a welcoming atmosphere for everyone.

7. Don’t Misuse Facilities
Electric sockets at stations are for official use only. Commuters should carry charged power banks instead of relying on station outlets.

8. Sit Properly
Keep legs tucked in and avoid sitting on the floor. This ensures comfort and convenience for all passengers.

By adhering to these guidelines, passengers can help keep the Dubai Metro safe, clean, and enjoyable for everyone.
