Diaa Allam nominated for UNESCO-Sharjah Prize for Arab Culture

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has officially recognized artist and calligrapher Diaa Allam as a laureate for the esteemed 20th edition of the UNESCO-Sharjah Prize for Arab Culture. This prestigious award acknowledges individuals, groups, or institutions dedicated to advancing the understanding and appreciation of Arab art and culture through their remarkable contributions and achievements.

Diaa Allam's nomination for the UNESCO-Sharjah Prize underscores his pivotal role as a cultural ambassador, supported by the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture). It encourages him to continue exhibiting projects that highlight the significance and diversity of Arabic calligraphy.

Expressing his gratitude for the nomination, Diaa Allam emphasized the award's role in showcasing Arab art and culture globally. He stated, "The UNESCO-Sharjah Prize for Arab Culture reflects the evolution, aesthetics, and diversity of the artistic landscape in the Arab world, emphasizing calligraphy's adaptability to contemporary developments." Allam expressed pride in his nomination and his commitment to creating innovative artistic works that inspire audiences worldwide.

Dr. Saeed Mubarak bin Kharbash, CEO of Arts & Literature at Dubai Culture, commended Diaa Allam's selection as a laureate for the prestigious award. He highlighted the prize's significance in promoting Arab arts and fostering cultural dialogue. Dr. Kharbash affirmed Dubai Culture's support for creative individuals like Allam, aiming to showcase their work on a global platform.

Over the past decade, Diaa Allam has honed his skills in various artistic disciplines, including murals, three-dimensional calligraphy, and digital design. He has effectively conveyed the richness of Arabic calligraphy through modern mediums, including experiments with artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and non-fungible tokens (NFTs). Allam's collaborations with international institutions and renowned brands have further amplified his impact on the global artistic scene.

Allam's artistic vision has been showcased at prestigious events such as the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) at Expo 2020 Dubai, as well as through partnerships with esteemed brands like Rolls Royce, BMW, and Dior.

Established in 1998, the UNESCO-Sharjah Prize for Arab Culture is awarded by the Director-General of UNESCO based on recommendations from an international jury comprising experts in Arab culture.
